  • Who would you like to see perform in JLP's band

    BMB

Kind of like 'fantasy football" here in the U.S....if you could wave a magic wand, who'd you like to see perform with Jean-Luc in his band? Start with bass: that's easy-Jeff Berlin. There are quite a few great bass players out there, but Jeff is in a class by himself; Keyboards-Lyle Mays or David Sancious (saw David twice; once with Sting, and once with Jack Bruce/Billy Cobham). When Sancious played with Sting, it was the first time I'd ever seen a keyboard player with a pop artist get a standing ovation; Drums-this is harder...I'm thinking Paul Wertico (formerly with the Pat Metheny Group). Paul is another drumming machine (like Rayford)-and the term "drumming machine" is a compliment; Guitar-hmmm...start with Steve Morse here. I had thought about Glen Drover (metal guitarist who recently recorded "Don't Let The World Pass You By"), but I don't think his fusion chops are there yet. Others?

  • The Gift Of Time (1988)

    BMB

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C1SdPIMMgSw It would be terrific to see the Atlantic Years band play this again. While I've enjoyed every drummer I've seen in Jean-Luc's band, Rayford has a special affinity for JLP's music. He is scary-good, a veritable drumming machine, a lot like Bill Bruford in that respect.

    Goyang City South Korea

Hi Jean Luc Saw your show the other night here in Goyang City and just wanted to tell you how much I enjoyed it. I saw you play back in the late 70's in Toronto. I've been living here in South Korea for the past 10 years and didn't think I would ever get a chance to attend another one of your performances. It was a great honor to have a chance to see your truly amazing talent again. Thank you. BTW that was my crazy wife who initiated the mini stage rush just before the encore, lol.

Hi Jean, I have listened to your music since the 80'S when, at the time, I had a major question, can you listen to Jazz and still get into Punk? I had a similar stupid question about what you could or could not do in relationships. Eventually as in life I figured it out, listen to whatever you want. I saw you guys in concert in Grand Prarie and know you felt ill after the show becuase I had purchased the meet and great deal they had going which I could not believe was only 100$. I didnt know how the concert was to be played but was extremely happy that I went. There was no hesitation except that I found out that you and Chick Corea, Stabley Clark, Lenney White and Frank Gable were coming the day before. Anyway my brother is the one who turned me on to your music back in the 80"s so when I found out you guys were coming I tried to get him to go and he kept telling he could not go. I kept saying what is the matter with you, this would be a show of a lifetime? Anyway I kept pressuring him until his girlfriend finally confessed the reason for asking him not to make plans. It was because she had already purchased tickets to your show. Anyway I know this long winded but when meeting the band after the show I told Chick that my favorite albums of his were MY Spanish Heart and No Mistery(2 rocken albums) Chick said that you were on My Spanish Heart and all I said was really? What I meant to say way I have all of Jean Luc's stuff and was equally disappointed that I did not get to meet you. You are the best. I kept yelling out Egocentric Molecuels during the show along with Celebration Suite from No Mistery. Anyway what a show. I only hope in my lifetime I get a chance to see you do your music all the way. Thanks for a great evening Jean. Hope you feel better.

  • Need some advice

    Andre Henriquez

    Petropolis Rio de Janeiro Brazil

Dear Mr. Ponty, I'm a great admirer of you. In fact, I decided started to play violin, among other things, when I listenned to your album "Aurora". Unfortunately, here in Brazil, there's no much people making violin music outside the classical realm like me. So I have no idea about what I'm doing, if it's bad, good, average and I'm making it with so much effort to survive in this path that I would be really glad if when you have some time, if you could give me some advice on my playing, improvisation and whatever you want to talk about. Here's a link where you can listen to one of my songs: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OSghI1Qu3Q4 Since now, thank you very much indeed. See you in Sao Paulo next monh! Andre

    São Paulo São Paulo Brazil

Salute, JLP. I've been your admirer and carefully listener since the first sample of your hard job sounded in my car, a K7 copy of "Cosmic Messenger". From that moment on, I started to pay attention to all your outcomes. The musical phases more or less get even to the technological media changes, from K7 to blue-ray. Now, for me it was the news of the year (thanks Mr Tom Gagliardi from Gagliarchives) the announcement of your "Atlantic Years" band & tour. I've seen you a couple of times here in São Paulo, always gentle and profoundly respectful with the audience at Anhembi Theater (Palacio das Convenções). Fortunately the brand new Bourbon Theater in São Paulo is a venue at your level, you will again for sure reward us with your competence, music, technique & feeling. Be welcome to Brazil again next November.
